HOME REPORTS UPDATE

We have today written to the President of the Law Society of Scotland on behalf of our Members as follows -

“An unprecedented number of Paralegals in Scotland have been made redundant in the past 6 months due to the impact of the credit crunch on conveyancing and the numbers are increasing on a weekly basis. There are no Paralegal positions available to those who are seeking new employment.

It is our opinion that the introduction of Home Reports will have an adverse impact on what is already a struggling market with a resultant increase in redundancies not only for Paralegals but also Solicitors, Trainees and Support Staff who are also affected. For some High Street Firms whose main income is from conveyancing, this could be the final straw and result in them having to close down.

We have been receiving regular updates from Paralegals in Firms throughout Scotland and no area remains untouched by this nightmare. I personally have worked in Legal Firms since 1965 and have never known redundancies on this scale in the Legal Profession.”

We want to offer our assistance and support to any further action being taken to attempt to delay the introduction of the Home Reports on 1 December 2008.

If you have any comments to make on this please email them to christine.lambie@wgrant.com asap.
